Presidents' Academy is Coming

Mar 16, 2018 – We are excited for the first Delta Sigma Pi Presidents' Academy coming to St. Louis, January 11-13, 2019.

Presidents' Academy is a national training event for chapter presidents designed to complement, not replace, other Delta Sigma Pi training vehicles. The Fraternity has hired Plaid to design and develop the curriculum. It will include The Birkman Method®, as well as pre- and post-development opportunities. It is designed to equip collegiate chapter presidents to develop their leadership potential in a way that has immediate benefits to them personally, to the chapters they lead, and to the Fraternity as a whole. Instead of focusing on general professional development or Fraternity operations, content will center around assessing and developing strengths, coaching others, leading through ambiguity, and values-based leadership.  Enhancing these skills will lead to stronger chapters.

The Academy will provide attendees the opportunity to network with other chapter presidents while receiving specialized leadership training. The program will cover effectively running a chapter, managing your peers, working with different personality styles, strategic planning and goal setting, enforcing risk management and more. Brothers having experienced the Presidents' Academy will become more effective future District Directors, Regional Vice Presidents and general Fraternity contributors.

The Fraternity Board's desire is to minimize barriers to participation by making it as inexpensive as possible for chapters to participate. Funding options are currently being considered and ultimately, the event may be free for each chapter. Funding options include a combination of donor gifts, corporate sponsorship, registration fees, member dues, or chapter fees.

St. Louis is an easily-accessible city in central U.S., making it an excellent option for the event. January doesn't conflict with other Fraternity trainings and events or summer vacations and internships. Several other Greek organizations do similar events in January while most students are still on their winter break.

Presidents' Academy is anticipated to be a great program with numerous benefits. Presidents who are effective leaders will have immediate positive impacts on their chapters. The training will focus on strategies that can be immediately put to use, and refined over time. All attendees will be accountable for employing a set of leadership approaches, assessing their success, and discussing with other attendees and volunteer leaders. This process will ensure the training results in both personal growth for the presidents, and tangible benefits for their chapters.  Stronger, more unified chapters, lead to a stronger organization overall.
