Brothers visited MMGY Global, State Street, Barkley and Lockton. They had the opportunity to choose companies of interest and to see a wide variety of firms.
MMGY Global is a travel based marketing firm, and the visit began with a tour of their facilities including, passing through creative labs, viewing their office spaces, and even having an opportunity to meet the CEO. All brothers in attendance for this tour were majoring in marketing and they had the privilege of hearing an employee panel. This was especially beneficial because the panel featured nine employees from different departments of the company. Brothers asked well-crafted questions pertaining to career goals, and received valuable answers.
Then at State Street, a financial services firm, brothers had an on-site tour of the company’s beautiful facility in downtown Kansas City that overlooks the Missouri River. State Street is currently remodeling their workspace to an open office atmosphere layout without cubicles, which they hope will encourage collaboration across departments and develop a stronger team mentality. After the tour, brothers enjoyed a recruiting presentation followed by an employee panel session. Brothers gained valuable knowledge and insightful information about the financial services industry, company culture and life in Kansas City.
In the afternoon brothers visited Barkley, one of the largest marketing firms in the Kansas City area. The trip began with a presentation of the company’s successful ad campaigns. The presentation included short videos, as well as the ideas and execution behind the campaign. After the presentation they went on a tour of the building, which included a viewing many of their creative labs in action. Above all, the greatest part of the visit was the company interaction along the tour. The employees were very friendly and shared their everyday schedule with us.
Finally, brothers went to Lockton, which is the world’s largest privately owned insurance broker with offices around the globe. COO Tim Meacham gave a presentation on the keys to success and the importance of intellectual curiosity. Brothers then participated in another employee panel comprised mostly of recent college graduates and young professionals. Lockton has a very young and exciting company culture and is unique in the structure of their business. Brothers were thankful for the visit and interested in futures at Lockton.
After all the visits brothers gathered for a tour of Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals. Overall, the trip was successful in the development of our professionalism, network, and brotherhood.
