For many years, Lambda Nu has supported Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, an organization that brings awareness to childhood cancer by raising money to fund research for new treatments in hopes of one day finding a cure. The chapter’s support to ALSF began with hosting a lemonade stand at a biannual celebration for business students called Mays Fest. To increase their level of support, VPCS Abbye Blakeslee and her committee developed and organized a 5k marathon. By contacting local businesses and family members they were able to get many sponsors, including MainStreet America, Brazos Running Co., V-Quest Office Machine & Supplies, Here's Life Africa, T.R.A.C., The Jones Firm, and a local branch of Northwestern Mutual.
To make this event even more special and to give the runners motivation to finish the race, each participant was given a letter from a “Childhood Cancer Hero,” a child who previously received support from ALSF. This kind of personalized interaction attracted approximately 250 participants, raising $4,800 for the Foundation. For this, ALSF titled Lambda Nu the champion of the 2016 Greek Lemonade War.
