Seeking a service event with the greatest impact for the Albion community, VP-Community Service Lexie Jones spoke with City Manager Sheryl Mitchell who suggested aiding the Kalamazoo River watershed cleanup. Seven members and five pledges cleaned the riverbanks and retrieved litter from the river with students, teachers, and residents of Albion.
Through this event, members became more aware of the effects their actions have on the environment. The glass, plastic, cans, and other garbage thrown out of cars or on the sidewalk adds up and members saw the impact first-hand. In total, the Krazy for the Kazoo river cleanup resulted in volunteers collecting more than 580 pounds of trash. The chapter is looking forward to cleaning up the Kalamazoo River in the future during this annual event.

About Krazy for the Kazoo
Krazy for the Kazoo is a day where the community comes together to celebrate local streams and rivers in the Kalamazoo River watershed. Volunteers descend and pick one of eight locations to pick up trash and debris from the river, clean up a local park, plant a tree, and show the community how they are Krazy for the Kazoo. This watershed-wide event grew out of a successful cleanup program conducted in the Battle Creek, Charlotte, and Marshall areas for more than 10 years. The event spread to many other locations including Otsego, Kalamazoo, Albion and Concord.
