Rho Psi Making a Difference with the Humane Society
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—In support of Make A Difference Day (MDDay), Rho Psi Chapter at the University of South Florida-St. Petersburg participated in a community service event with the Humane Society of Pinellas.
A variety of projects were completed by 15 brothers and five pledges who were happy to support one of Delta Sigma Pi’s national service initiatives. Rho Psi was thrilled to be a part of this day with all of the other chapters in the country. They organized donated goods, cleaned up the donation area, beautified the grounds and painted the building’s deck.
The Humane Society of Pinellas anticipated that these tasks would require three hours for completion. However, due to the phenomenal teamwork within the groups, Rho Psi completed these tasks in an hour and a half. The Humane Society was tremendously impressed with Rho Psi and was excited about inviting the chapter to assist with future projects.
Rho Psi has volunteered on numerous occasions with the Humane Society and hopes to continue volunteering at least once a semester. This community service event is one of the chapter’s favorites to participate in and every pledge and brother who volunteered experienced joy from giving back to the community. Additionally, this event provided the group the opportunity for a unique bonding experience between brothers and pledges.
Kappa Tau Volunteers at South Carolina Botanical Gardens
CLEMSON, S.C.—For MDDay, brothers from the Kappa Tau Chapter at Clemson University mulched and weeded the South Carolina Botanical Gardens. Pledges volunteered alongside brothers spreading mulch, pulling weeds, and helping beautify the gardens. The Gardens are an important part of the community and many students spend time there. The chapter enjoyed giving back to the community by making the Gardens more beautiful and enjoyable for all.
Lambda and Pittsburgh Support Make A Difference Day
PITTSBURGH—More than 1,000 students from The University of Pittsburgh participated in MDDay with their various clubs and organizations. All of the volunteers were assigned to different projects located all around the city of Pittsburgh to help the community.
Five brothers from Lambda Chapter were assigned to the South Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh to help winterize the gardens of Frazier Farms. Most off campus residences are in that neighborhood which made it that much more rewarding. The brothers enjoyed directly helping a community they were so close to, as well as seeing a whole different side of their neighborhood.
They spent nearly three hours winterizing the garden with 11 additional volunteers. Lambda Chapter takes great pride in giving back not only to the Fraternity, but the university, local community and nationally by helping with national service initiatives.
