The presentation taught the audience how to overcome modern trends that can be the easy route, such as only clicking "connect" on LinkedIn. Brother Rizzi encourages millennials to take networking one step further and actually create a connection that could become extremely valuable. Rizzi also discussed online etiquette and how to establish your outward persona.
Attendees learned that if they expect their network to work for them (job opportunities, etc.), they have to work for their network. One should get involved by attending events, volunteering, doing and creating since there is value in service and it has karmic effects. By being valuable to others, others will naturally be valuable to you as well!
At networking or career events, don't just collect the business cards and let them sit in your padfolio. See what these people need. Maybe you can connect them yourself? Maybe they need an intern? Even just writing an email to say thank you would be extremely valuable because you don't want to wait until you need someone to connect with them.
VP-Professional Activities Ethan Witting,
Illinois State, led the planning of the event by reserving the room on campus, working with Illinois State's event coordinator and campus marketer to create advertisements and posters, and helping promote the event across campus. Connor Achim, Witting's predecessor, began the dialogue with Nick while serving as VP-Professional Activities and helped make the event possible.
Rizzi is looking forward to visiting more chapters to present on networking and additional topics. If you're interested in bringing Brother Rizzi to your campus, visit
