Gamma Upsilon Seeks Professionalism from Within
Dec 10, 2015 –
Wellesley, Mass.—The Gamma Upsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi at Babson College coordinated a professional event about networking and using LinkedIn with the local Alpha Epsilon Pi chapter.
The idea for the event stemmed from the professional development leadership in each organization. The speakers covered creating and utilizing a LinkedIn profile and useful information for networking with anyone.
Gamma Upsilon decided to co-host this event with Alpha Epsilon Pi to expand their own professional network on campus and to help those members establish their professional foundation. Through this collaboration, Gamma Upsilon made new connections with fraternities and established itself as a professional source on campus.
One of the most important lessons the chapter gained from the event is that professional values align, no matter if a fraternity is social or professional. Professionalism is often solely defined as a strict way of carrying oneself with specific characteristics. However, the chapter now sees professional as not only the way of carrying oneself, but also the way in which you help to further the people around you.
It is important for Deltasigs to forge meaningful relationships on campus to build the Fraternity’s own brand, but also help develop its members professionally through different channels. Exposure to different cultures and work ethics is valuable in enriching each and every one of our members.
For the past year, the Gamma Upsilon chapter has focused on bringing employers and speakers to the table. However, professional development does not necessarily mean that it has to come from outside sources, but that it can very well be found inside a chapter’s own talent.
