Xi Tau Raises Funds for Local Children's Hospital

Dec 14, 2015 – Syracuse, NY—The Xi Tau chapter of Delta Sigma Pi hosted its fourth annual Cuse vs. Cancer race on the Syracuse University campus.
The 5k race and 1 mile walk was established in 2012 by Jack Cogan, Syracuse, who was also present at this year’s race as a participant. Through registration and sponsorship, the chapter has donated more than $9,000 over the last four years to medical research. The event has grown steadily since the inaugural year and runners include students on campus and residents of Syracuse. Approximately 200 runners and raised $3,000 this year for Golisano Children's Hospital in Syracuse.
Planning for the race began months in advance with Michelle Martin, Syracuse, leading a team of brothers who secured sponsors, set the course, and marketed the event to meet participation goals. The entire chapter, 70 members in total, participates in the event by either running the race or volunteering on race day. The pledge class of 36 members also volunteered and ran in the race.
The Xi Tau chapter places an important emphasis on community service efforts and is planning for their annual spring community service event, Spike for the Stars. The spring event is a volleyball tournament involving various Greek organizations on campus and all proceeds being donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
