The anniversary weekend brought together more than 100 brothers and guests. The event kicked off on Saturday with a brunch hosted at The Inn at Virginia Tech, where alumni were able to bring any memorabilia to place on display. The chapter also displayed items that have been passed down from brother to brother. After brunch, brothers participated in activities around Blacksburg including a football game, trip to the golf range and a visit to the new exhibit at the Moss Arts Center. The day ended with a formal dinner at The Inn at Virginia Tech, where alumni brothers gave speeches about the effect of Delta Sigma Pi on their lives. On Sunday morning, the chapter hosted a farewell breakfast.
According to VPAR Chris Afcha, "This event was one of the most rewarding experiences that I've had in this Fraternity. When I pledged, I understood that excellence was part of our tradition. It was very inspiring to see how everyone that came maintained the tradition to be excellent through his or her careers. Seeing the charter brothers was a very surreal experience. Brothers learned so much about our university and the reasons for the founding of the Zeta Upsilon Chapter. It was magnificent to hear that our charter brothers were proud of us! Celebrating 50 years sounds like a great celebration, but in retrospect, we were celebrating all the hardships and successes that this chapter has gone through. This chapter has initiated 1,064 brothers; this number stands as a testimony of its success and excellence!"
Brothers enjoyed listening to the three oldest charter brothers give their greatest pieces of advice, which were "always do the right thing" and "follow your passions." Afcha says, "Considering their long careers, these pieces of advice made a huge impact on our chapter."
