The wonderful thing about Make A Difference Day is that making a difference in your community can take many shapes and forms. It can be bringing in groceries for an elderly neighbor, organizing a massive 5K on campus or volunteering at your local Ronald McDonald House Charity. For the Gamma Pi chapter, it was breaking out their pens and making someone's day. 

On October 27, the chapter set up a table on campus and encouraged students and faculty members to stop by and make cards for one (or all) of the organizations chosen: Operation Gratitude (armed forces), Girls Love Mail (women diagnosed with breast cancer), Card for Kids in Hospitals and Love for the Elderly. 

Vice President-Community Service Erin Lippert knew October is a busy time for students, however with preparation and strategy, over 100 cards were created in just one day (and as anyone who has written a lot of thank you cards knows, that is quite time consuming!). 

"We advertised the event around campus by posting flyers," said Lippert. Chapter members also shared the flyer through email and social media. 


The Gamma Pi chapter created a flyer that advertised their #MDDAY event and led to over 100 support cards mailed to deserving organizations. 

Lippert was also very touched by the support of students on Loyola-Chicago's campus in lending a helping hand. "My favorite part of the event was seeing how the campus helped us out! One student stopped by and wrote lengthy support letters for all four of the organizations. It is also wonderful seeing how something as simple as a card can really make someone's day!"
