Ferguson was initiated into Kappa Chi at Savannah State (GA) in 1987 and went on to earn a degree in marketing and business administration. After some time at the Savannah Convention and Visitors Bureau, he went on to become the vice president of sales for the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, where he remained for more than 10 years. Ferguson is currently president and CEO of Destination D.C., taking over in 2009 (the same year Grand Chapter Congress was held in D.C. At that event, Ferguson attended with an official welcome and presented a silver bowl to the Fraternity on behalf of President Obama).
Ferguson serves on the board of the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board, the Downtown Business Improvement District, the Greater Washington Sports Alliance, the Military Bowl, Historical Society of Washington D.C. and the Franciscan Monastery USA. He is a Chairman of the D.C. Business Coalition, a member of the Hospitality Alliance and a member of BrandUSA's Marketing Advisory Group.
