Upon the recommendation from staff and support from local leadership, the Board of Directors has approved the chartering of the Omega Omicron Chapter at the University of Illinois-Chicago, the journey of the Omega Omicron Chapter began in spring 2024 when Aden Joe and
Abin Polakkattil contacted the Fraternity in hope of starting a chapter.
Central Office staff met with the enthusiastic students and Joey Maman, the director of student involvement. In February 2024, Growth Consultant Adriana Garcia began initial recruitment on campus and within a few days, more than
50 students expressed interest, with 17 students signing a letter of intent by April.
From there, the startup group quickly found ways to connect with the Delta Sigma Pi community. Students attended virtual webinars hosted by the Fraternity, connected with Deltasigs from neighboring chapters, and met fraternal leaders. Before the
end of their first semester as a startup group they had already met several petitioning requirements and had an incredible amount of support from their faculty advisor, Jacinta Banks, as well as the institution. In May, the group was provided
with additional support through the appointment of Hunter Weber as District Director.
Startup Group VP-Finance Waniya Iqbal said, “Watching this grow from just an idea into an established chapter that’s creating opportunities for students to grow professionally and personally has been such a rewarding experience. Delta
Sigma Pi has taught me teamwork, perseverance, and all the work it takes to build something truly meaningful.”
You can help ensure the soon-to-be chapter is equipped with the financial resources needed to succeed. Gifts to the Omega Omicron Chapter Leadership Fund will directly assist collegiate members in attending the Fraternity's educational and leadership
development programs. Click here to make a gift today.
